Galleri Magnus Karlsson was founded in 1990. The first 7 years the gallery was located in Västerås, a city 100 km west of Stockholm. It gained a reputation as one of the most interesting contemporary art galleries in Sweden. In August 1997 the gallery moved to Stockholm.
The focus of the gallery is to show the work of emerging artists from Sweden. The gallery has done international art fair such as Liste, Basel (1999, 2000 and 2001), Art Forum Berlin (2002) Frieze Art Fair, London (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009) and The Armory Show, New York (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009) to present those artists also internationally. The gallery also co-produces exhibitions and projects with museums and galleries.
The gallery moved to a new location at Fredsgatan 12 during the summer of 2005. The gallery is located on the ground floor of The Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, Fredsgatan 12, Stockholm.
