Louisiana presents a cornucopia of international contemporary and classic works of art acquired over the past three years – almost one hundred works within painting, photography, sculpture and installation.
At Louisiana the opportunity for in-depth insight into the art of the present must be featured. The museum therefore upholds ambitious goals for the acquisition of contemporary art in order to create surprising and eye-opening perspectives on our time.
Since 2012 Louisiana has acquired 162 works by 71 artists through donations and purchases – and has thus given the Danish cultural heritage an international boost. 96 of these works – from small-scale and intimate works to gigantic pieces, from series in their own right to installations, that take up a whole room - have been selected for the exhibitions Illumination and Fire Under Snow. All in all the largest presentation of new works of art in the collection in the museum’s almost 60-year history.
Illumination is set to be an exciting encounter with artists such as Andreas Gursky, Franz West, Cindy Sherman, Julie Mehretu Alex Da Corte, and Tacita Dean, as well as many others from the global art scene. A wide field of both familiar and unfamiliar names - including several young artists not previously represented in the museum’s collection.
