Works on Paper

26.1–6.4 2019, Galleri Bo Bjerggaard, Copenhagen, Denmark

From Press release:

On Saturday, 26 January 2019, Galleri Bo Bjerggaard is opening the exhibition Works on Paper , presenting works by 27 different artists and, in turn, 27 different approaches to paper as a material. The exhibition will be shown in the gallery's west rooms.

When Galleri Bo Bjerggaard first opened its doors in 1999, in Pilestrmde, one our first exhibitions was of works on paper by such heavyweights of the period as Baselitz, Fautrier, lmmendorf, Jorn, Kirkeby, Lupertz, Mortensen, Penck, Picabia and Polke.

Today, almost 20 years later, drawings and works on paper have become objects of particular interest in the art world, and are shown in biennials, art fairs and exhibitions around the world.

So, we are kicking off the exhibition season and celebrating our anniversary with a new show of works on paper. The exhibition presents contemporary works by artists with whom the gallery has worked over the years, alongside works by other internationally known artists, young and older alike, who have caught our eye and whom we greatly admire.

All the artists have here worked with paper as their primary medium. The exhibition testifies to the medium's potential for embracing big and small, the representational and the abstract, lines and drawings, colours and pattern, the detailed and the fleeting. The materials likewise range from pencil and gouache to pastel and acrylic spray paint, collage, oil pastel, acrylic and much more.

The participating artists are Anna Barriball, Anna Bjerger, Arturo Herrera, Brigitte Waldach, Celia Paul, Chantal Joffe, Christian Holstad, Daniel Richter, Georg Baselitz, Hernan Bas, llse D'Hollander, Ivan Andersen, Jannis Kounellis, Jockum Nordström, John K0rner, Jonathan Meese, Jules de Balincourt, Katharina Grosse, Maija Luutonen, Mamma Andersson, Marcel Dzama, Marcel van Eeden, Per Inge Bj0rlo, Per Kirkeby, Peter Linde Busk, Ragnar Kjartansson and Tal R.

The essay in this catalogue was originally written by Mikael Wivel for the 1999 Works on Paper
exhibition, and is reprinted with the permission of the author.

The colours of the walls in the exhibition rooms are designed by Jannik Martensen-Larsen of Tapet-Cafe.
