”Glass Tableware in Still Life”, Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, Japan, 3.11 2023—8.1 2024

From press release:

"Ms. Yamano, how about making a book based on your glass works?"
This suggestion was the spark of inspiration for the project Glass Tableware in Still Life. Artists communicated the types of glassware they wanted to depict to the glass artist Yoko Andersson Yamano, who blew glass pieces in response. The artists then produced works while looking at the completed glassware. The photographer Masahiro Sambe subsequently visited the artists'studios to take photographs, and the designer Yuri Suyama designed the book. Unfolding in Sweden, Germany, and Japan, the project was initiated in the hope that many would view the resulting glass pieces, paintings, and photographs, eventually leading to this exhibition. The project unites the slightly distorted beauty unique to clear glassware created by free blowing, artists'intimate paintings, and charmingly buoyant black-and-white photographs. We hope viewers will open their ears to the voices emerging from these creative works, and enjoy weaving together their individual stories.
