Organized by Stephen Truax, this week-long exhibition to benefit the Ali Forney Center will raise vital funds to support the Center’s mission to protect LGBTQ+ youth from homelessness in New York City.
Founded in 2002 in memory of Ali Forney—a gender-nonconforming youth who lived on the streets of New York City before their murder in 1997—the Ali Forney Center is now the nation’s largest provider of services to LGBTQ+ young people experiencing homelessness. The organization anticipates a 20-percent increase in demand for services this year amidst the potential loss of significant government funding, with a waiting list exceeding 200 people. Benefit initiatives like Toward the Lightare more essential than ever to protect the city’s most vulnerable youth.
