Lars Arrhenius | The Exquisite Corpse Orchestra

8 January - 6 February 2010
Press Release

Galleri Magnus Karlsson is pleased to announce Lars Arrhenius and Daniel Westlund’s first joint exhibition in the gallery.

The Exquisite Corpse Orchestra is exactly what the title says; an ensemble where different body parts together form an orchestra! Exquisite Corps is a well known surrealistic game where one person first draw a head, the next person the body and so on. In Lars Arrhenius’ and Daniel Westlund’s four channel video installation the separate parts are incomplete, but together they create a musical harmony. If you for example isolate the video of the bottom you have a meaningless farting potato dumpling! The consequence of the Exquisite Corps-game is that the individual parts are not as
important as the collective wholeness, how bizarre it might be. The tango in The Exquisite Corps Orchestra deals with passion, sex and broken hearts yearning to be together!

Lars Arrhenius (born 1966) and Daniel Westlund (born 1969) studied together at the Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm 1989-1994. They have together since 2007. Among their works are the award-winning animated film The Big Store and a the children’s tv program Showtajm which is currently shown on Swedish television.
