Mamma Andersson & Tal R at Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg

”About Hill”, Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg, 14.10 2022–10.4 2023
From press release:
Discover two of the most important contemporary artists in the Nordic region. For this exhibition they have created a series of brand new works, all related to the great Swedish artist, Carl Fredrik Hill

The Danish-Israeli artist Tal R (b. 1967) and the Swedish artist Karin Mamma Andersson (b. 1962) both helped pave the way for new 21st-century painting.

In the exhibition About Hill, the two artists grapple with the world of Nordic painting by basing works on the art of the great Swedish artist, Carl Fredrik Hill (1849-1911) and his enticing landscapes – landscapes steeped in melancholy and, for good and bad, testimony to the artist’s mental instability.
Visitors will encounter newly-created works by two of the most outstanding Nordic artists of our day, bursting with allusions and packed with associations between past and present.

The exhibition is a key element in the celebration of the museum’s 50th anniversary in 2022, when the museum is not only looking back, but also looking to the future with some of the most prominent contemporary artists. About Hill – Tal R & Mamma Andersson will be presented in the museum’s large Main Gallery, at the heart of the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto’s extraordinary building, thereby amalgamating the Nordic element with a powerful quartet made up of Tal R, Mamma Andersson, Hill and Aalto.

The exhibition is a collaboration between Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg and Malmö Konstmuseum. The two museums are proud to present this duo exhibition, featuring two of the most important figures in the world of Nordic contemporary art.
